Neil Smith is a main character from the TV series, Gavin and Stacey. He is the best friend of Gavin Shipman, and is played by James Corden. He is mostly known as Smithy.
Background[]
He lives with his mother in Billericay, Essex. He has a sister called Rudi. His father (said to be called Neil), left them when Smithy was younger. He and Gavin have many friends, and together, they make up "the Crew". Smithy had a girlfriend called Lucy, who was in her late teens, and she was still in the Brownies. He met Vanessa Jenkins at the same time that Gavin met his future wife Stacey Shipman, in Leicester Square. Although they never really connected romantically, they ended up having several one-night-stands, one of which ended in Nessa falling pregnant with Smithy's son.

Smithy is a huge West Ham United fan, and often goes to Upton Park to see them play. He works as a handyman, and does building work and tiling among other things. He likes Kentucky Fried Chicken as well, as seen in two episodes. He was asked by Gavin to be his best man for his wedding, but they fell out on the stag night, because of something that Gavin did to upset him. He loves going to the foam party at Ritzy's, because he likes touching up girls when they don't know who's doing it.
